These treatments are for men who have no sperm in their ejaculation.
Male infertility is not always about sperm abnormality, low sperm count, or a small number of sperm. Sometimes it can be the absence of sperms in the semen. The surgical sperm retrieval procedure is a savior for men who have no sperm in their ejaculation. Several factors contribute to this absence; it can be some medical condition or an injury.
Most men think they can’t experience fatherhood, but it is easy to treat this condition with advanced fertility treatments. PESA/TESE are procedures to extract sperm directly from the male body to be used in fertility treatments.
PESA: – Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration is a procedure in which a needle is inserted into the epididymis, and the semen is extracted. Later, sperm is extracted from the semen to be used in the IVF process.
TESE: – Testicular Epididymal Sperm Extraction is a surgical procedure in which a small piece of testicular tissue is obtained from which sperm is extracted for the IVF process.
The success rate of PESA/TESE is similar to IVF or ICSI process as it is a part of them.
PESA/TESE can be beneficial for those men who have been through an injury or don’t have the vas deferens, which carry sperm from the testicle to the urethra. Failed vasectomy reversal is also a condition in which these procedures can be of great help.
PESA does not come with any side effects as it is not a surgical procedure. TESE might cause irritation in some cases, but proper guidance is enough to overcome those.
